This Week in Vintage Hardware: The 8-Inch Floppy

The original floppy drive, IBM 23FD, released in 1971 wasn’t sold commercially, didn’t have the ability to save and could only be read. It packed a whopping 79.75KB, equal to about .00007975GB. The last new 8 inch floppy drive was introduced in 1977 and was able to store 1.2MB. Maybe, if you’re lucky, you can find an 8-inch floppy on eBay to frame in your collection of things the world will almost certainly never see again.
